The Deadliest Catch

Discovery channel is one of my favorite channel to hung on because all of their shows contains educational information that open my eyes to the reality. Sometime people don’t realize how precious life is and don’t appreciate people’s hard work. This video I provide above is one of the show in discovery channel title “The Deadliest Catch” The documentary of this reality series was created in 2007 when one of the Deck Head (Captain) come up with his idea to hire a camera man to catch (make film) all the activities they made outside the reality world while catching the king crab. This extraordinary film will catching viewers breath how deadly it could be when all these men face to face against the fierce of nature.

Every crab season, these guy will undergo the intense safety practice before they head out to the shore. Every crew must follow the basic safety rules such as; wearing the heavy suit, learn to fight fire, and be sure to wear their heavy gear to protect their body against the cold temperature of water that capable to killed human with in seconds. This is the first necessary requirements provided by the Alaskan Coast Guard to prevent themselves (crabbers) against the violent of the sea and be ready for any incidents. The purpose of these safety rules is to lessen the death reported last few years where the death recorded “Since 2000, their death rate has been 50 percent higher than that of Bering Sea crabbers and four times the rate of all U.S. fishermen, federal statistics show. "We're the deadliest catch," says Mike Banks, the Oregon skipper of the 38-foot Alexa B, which on Saturday joined several hundred crabbers for the opening of the new Dungeness season off Oregon and part of Washington. "We're fishing in the Pacific Ocean, where the storms blow 3,000 miles in from Japan.” (Bal Bernton, 2007). This is the real danger that they will encounter every crab season.

These people will stay in Alaskan shore for about one month. They will fully awake and barely to get rest, every person has their own task to do. As you can see, the huge cage on this video weighted for about a 1000 pounds as twice as their weight. So just imagine how danger it could be when the 100 feet sea along with strong and 0 degree sea water strikes the boat while they were working to unload it. The danger is always be there with out facing the storm, crew must be attentive in every move they made because that huge cage is capable to take them under water.

After the scariest event, these people will headed back to the coastline and celebrate the fruitful of their hard work. The more crab they catch, the more money they make. Each member will earn by pounds of the crab. For instance, if they reach the 100,000 pounds of crab, then this will be divided into per head. So, just imagine how much they earn… lots of money. One time, I saw that every crew have reach the amount 20, 000 dollar. Not to bad right? The danger situation it could be the better money comes to your way. That's the life behind the Deadliest Catch.
